I am Keith Wain. I am a writer, editor, college English instructor, and instructional designer.

As a writer, I enjoy crafting fiction and non-fiction for young adults. I start with a strong concept and character, develop a fun story arc that will keep readers engaged, create an appealing setting that helps develop the main theme, and assure my characters never have an easy time with their decisions.

As an editor, I help shape essays, articles, reports, speeches, and chapters for fiction and non-fiction writers. I am a thorough editor. I start with content, making sure the ideas support a main argument, do not repeat or wander, and have clear relevance to the target audience. I look at the structure, making sure the order and flow of ideas is logical and appealing. After this, I’ll begin looking more closely at the writing, thinking about style, which means I’ll evaluate transitions and use of sources, develop an intriguing introduction and a conclusion that pushes the conversation forward, insert more evocative words or imagery, and, most importantly, make sure the language is clear and simple. Finally, I’ll perform basic edits and proofreading, making sure headers are uniform and short, correcting spelling and formating, and trimming up language.

As an English instructor and instructional designer, I enjoy working with people to create meaningful pieces of communication. This often means I’ll research my audience and their needs. Knowing the audience’s skill and knowledge level is a must to identify key points and objectives for the given course. Knowing my audience will also guide the tools and media I use to best communicate information and skills. For instructional design, I use Camtasia. I’ve been an English instructor for 14 years. Over this time, I’ve had numerous valuable experiences with writers and learners of every level.
